However, the eTA can be invalidated by the appropriate officer if the traveler is inadmissible to that country. An eTA is automatically issued to visa-exempt foreign nationals who apply for a work permit or a study permit to travel to a country without a visa.
To apply for an eTA, you must be a citizen of a visa-exempt country and hold a valid passport. An eTA can be applied for online through CIC. The application process only takes a few minutes and costs $7 CAD. After your application is processed, you will receive a confirmation email from CIC. You don’t need to print out the confirmation email as it is linked to your passport.
